The Department was established as far back as 1962 to conduct higher research and teaching in Ancient Indian History Culture & Archeology. This apart, the other important research programme of the department has been the reconstruction of the history and culture of Haryana with emphasis on working out the cultural unity in diversity. For generating a sense of unity in the vast milieu of ethnic and cultural groups of the country a proper understanding of the development of the society becomes imperative.
TEACHING : It is a Post-Graduate teaching and research department where M. A., M.Phil and Ph.D students are admitted and imparted training in various aspects of Ancient Indian History Culture& Archeology . In M. A. we teach political History of Ancient India, Socio-Economic History, Indian Culture & Thought and Ancient World Civilizations, Pre history, Proto-history Epigraphy, Numismatics, Art & Architecture and History & Archaeology of Haryana. Students of field archaeology groups are taken to some ancient mound for practical training in excavation techniques. M.Phil Students are taught sources of Ancient Indian History, Historiography, Research Methodology and Protohistoric India.
