 Dean Students' Welfare (Offg.)

Office of the Dean Students' Welfare

The office of the Dean Students’ Welfare looks after students’ welfare in numerous ways and also monitors various cultural/sports and academic activities.  Some specific important works of this office are as follows: -

1.             Providing of Bus/Railway passes facility

A major work of the office is facilitating students to travel to the University and back.  The office as such arranges for bus and railway passes for students in large numbers.  The process involves various stages of cash collection, deposit, preparation and distribution.  In case of railway concessions, the office of D.S.W after collecting the different kinds of concession forms (for daily collection) from D.R.M. New Delhi and disburses to the eligible students for concession in Railway fare.  This facility both in the case of bus passes and railway passes has now been made very smooth and time bound.

2.             Providing financial aid to students

The office of the D.S.W also arranges by recommending to the Vice-Chancellor financial aid to the needy and physically handicapped students. This process involves assessing and verifying details and actual disbursement.

3.             Funding of Educational/Cultural Tours

Students are encouraged to undertake trips to places of educational and historical importance.  These trips are organized in a manner so as to develop leadership qualities and an attitude of cooperating with others.  Above all the trips are expected to enable students to appreciate other cultures, societies and languages.  Fifty percent of expenditure incurred is funded by the Dean Students’ Welfare.

4.             Earn While You Learn Scheme

This novel scheme provides for 50 students to be engaged for Department related work for 20 hours a week at Rs. 30/- per hour.  The selection is done in a strictly enforced transparent manner.  The basic criterion being academic merit and financial need.  Physically challenged students are particularly encouraged to apply.  The spirit of the scheme is based on the idea of enabling needy students to meet educational expenses with dignity.

5.             Arranging of inter-disciplinary and guest lectures

The office of D.S.W. also provides financial assistance for arranging guest lectures in the different University Teaching Departments as well as inter-disciplinary lectures.

6.             Rostrum Competitions

The Rostrum competitions for public speaking have been started by the D.S.W office since 2005.  They have grown in participative popularity.  These public speaking competitions are conducted at the hostel, department and University level.  The prizes are distributed to the winners by the Vice-Chancellor in a function organized in the Senate Hall (Auditorium) of the University every year.

7.             Sports facilities

The D.S.W office looks after the sports activities of the University Teaching Departments. Sports material is purchased every year to facilitate the students for playing different type of sports/games.

8.             Cultural activities

The DSW office organizes the Haryana Day and Youth Culture Programme of U.T.D. students.  Teams of students are selected for these functions.  The Dean Students’ Welfare as Vice-Chairman of the Kurukshetra University Cultural Council also monitors the smooth functioning of the University cultural activities.
