About Us

Established in 1971, the Department of Commerce, Kurukshetra University is one of the pioneering institutions in the field of Commerce and Business education. Since its inception, the Department has been dedicated to achieving academic excellence, promoting high-quality research, and preparing competent professionals to meet the emerging challenges of the global business environment.
The Department currently offers a wide range of academic programmes designed to cater to the diverse educational needs of students and researchers:
• Bachelor of Commerce (Professional) – newly introduced from the academic session 2025–26 with an intake capacity of 40 students.
• Master of Commerce (M.Com.) – a well-established postgraduate programme with an intake of 130 students.
• Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) – with 55 research scholars presently pursuing research in various contemporary and emerging areas of commerce and Business.
In addition to regular programmes, the Department coordinates the following courses through the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE):
• Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com.)
• Master of Commerce (M. Com.)
• Post Graduate Diploma in Export Marketing Management
• Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation
The academic curricula of all programmes have been revised and updated in accordance with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The syllabi have been developed with the active participation of academicians, Alumni and industry experts, ensuring a balance between theoretical foundations and practical applications. The Department offers specializations in Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management (HRM) to provide students with focused knowledge and skill development opportunities.
The Department takes pride in its strong and distinguished alumni network, whose members are well-represented in various sectors including academia, corporate enterprises, government services, and entrepreneurship, both in India and abroad.
Beyond academics, the Department maintains a vibrant culture of seminars, conferences, workshops, and student-centric events, which form an integral part of its annual academic activities. These initiatives aim to foster intellectual curiosity, professional competence, and holistic development among students.

It gives me immense pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all students, alumni, faculty members, and stakeholders of the Department of Commerce, Kurukshetra University. Established in 1971 with the vision of imparting quality education and promoting excellence in commerce and business studies, the Department has evolved into a pioneer institution in commerce education, contributing significantly to academic innovation and societal development.

In keeping with our tradition of academic excellence and our commitment to relevance, the Department has introduced a new B.Com. (Professional) programme from the academic session 2025–26. This programme is designed to meet the emerging needs of industry and to prepare students for diverse career opportunities in the corporate and entrepreneurial sectors. Our M.Com. and Ph.D. programmes have also been thoroughly revised and updated in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, incorporating valuable insights from industry professionals and distinguished alumni. These academic reforms aim to strengthen conceptual understanding, enhance employability skills, and foster research and innovation among learners.

The Department of Commerce takes pride in its academic infrastructure, which includes IT-enabled classrooms, a Digital Library, and a well-equipped Seminar Hall that support interactive and technology-driven learning. Alongside academic pursuits, we place strong emphasis on co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Refresher Courses for Teachers, Guest Lectures, Sports Meet, Commerce Fest, Diwali Mela, Quiz Competitions etc., These initiatives nurture creativity, teamwork, and leadership, fostering holistic student development and creating a vibrant academic environment.

Our alumni continue to play a pivotal role in the Department’s growth through their active involvement in student mentorship, interactive sessions, and generous contributions toward infrastructural development. Their achievements and continued engagement serve as a source of inspiration and pride for both students and faculty.
